Hyderabad: Immersion of Khairatabad Ganesh concludes

Hyderabad: The ‘Shobha Yatra’ of the 70 ft-tall Ganesh idol of the famous pandal at Khairatabad here, a major attraction during the Ganesh Chaturthi in Hyderabad, which began on Tuesday morning concluded around 1.45 pm with the immersion of the giant idol in Hussain Sagar. As per the planned schedule, the immersion was done from crane No.4 installed at NTR Marg, within a record time of 10 minutes.

Mewanwhile, the immersion of thousands of Lord Ganesh idols in water bodies, following the conclusion of nine-day Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, began on a grand scale on Tuesday morning. An estimated one lakh idols are expected to be immmersed in water bodies this year in the city. The administration has made elaborate arrangements for the immersion of the idols.

The Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy took part in the idol immersion process and inspected the arrangements for the immersion on the ground. He directed that special supervision be made at the Hussain Sagar and other water bodies.

The immersion in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits would be supervised with 733 CCTV cameras and a total of 15,000 personnel, including sanitation, engineering and others, would work in three shifts for 24 hours for the immersion event. As many as 468 cranes have already been set up for the immersion.

Around 25,000 police personnel would be deployed as part of the security arrangements for the Ganesh idols immersion. The Hyderabad Traffic Police have already put in place traffic restrictions for the smooth conduct of the nimmajan of idols, which is expected to go on for 24 hours.
