Hyderabad: A 22-day-old infant died of suffocation in the arms of his mother, allegedly when his parents were fighting over some issues at Poosala Basthi in Saidabad on Friday.

The couple P Rajesh and Jahnavi, both work in private industry. According to the Saidabad police, Rajesh picked up an argument with Jahnavi allegedly over breastfeeding the infant, when the incident occurred.

“During the argument, he picked up a pipe and tried to attack Jahnavi, who was carrying the child in her arms. To avoid being hit, she ran around the house holding the child tightly,” said an official adding that the child could have died of suffocation during this.

After some time, the couple noticed the child was not responding and immediately shifted him to the Niloufer Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. The Saidabad police booked the couple for murder and took up an investigation.
