Hyderabad: Inter student ends life, family alleges harassment

Inter second year student K Pragna Reddy (18), died by suicide in the college hostel room allegedly over harassment from the college principal and management at Pragathi Nagar, Bachupally on Monday.

Hyderabad: An intermediate second year girl student died by suicide in the college hostel room allegedly over harassment from the college principal and management at Pragathi Nagar, Bachupally on Monday.

K Pragna Reddy (18), who was visibly upset for the past few days, went to college as usual and during the middle of the first hour, around 10 am, she complained the lecturer of ill health. She sought permission and went to her hostel room and hanged from the ceiling fan.

Police said Pragna’s friends in the hostel found her hanging and immediately alerted the hostel authorities. She was shifted to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.

Pragna’a parents alleged that she was upset and felt pressure from her principal and staff and died by suicide.

The Bachupally police are investigating.
