Hyderabad: An intermediate student, who reportedly suffered mental distress after being scolded by her lecturers for arriving late to the college, died on Thursday. The incident, which occurred at the Government Junior College for Girls, Marredpally, triggered a protest in front of the college on Friday.

As per reports, the 17-year-old girl, a resident of West Marredpally, arrived an hour late to the college on Thursday, following which the lecturers reprimanded her in front of her classmates. The student returned home and shared the ordeal with her mother, who tried to console her, stating that they would speak with the college authorities.

Meanwhile, the student suffered a severe headache and suddenly collapsed. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and later shifted to Gandhi Hospital, where a series of diagnostic tests were conducted on her.

Doctors, as per reports, said that due to mental stress, the student suffered a blood clot in her brain and passed away.

Following the student’s death, parents and student organisations staged a protest in front of the college, demanding action against the lecturers concerned and the college principal. Police registered a case, and further investigation is underway.
