Hyderabad: Relatives of 67-year-old Venkata Swamy Bogoju, a resident of Vankateshwara enclave, Upparpally, who was declared as brain dead by doctors, have decided to donate his organs under the State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
On January 4, Venkata Swamy collapsed in his house after complaining of giddiness. Close relatives immediately shifted him to a local private hospital for emergency care and on the same day they shifted him to Yashoda Hospital, Somajiguda for tertiary care.
After 28 hours of intensive treatment and several attempts at reviving Venkata Swamy, the attending team of neuro-physicians declared him as brain dead due to internal bleeding in the brain.
The grief counsellors of the hospital and Jeevandan counselled the family members of the deceased, who agreed to donate the organs. The consent to donate the organs was given by Venakata Swamy’s wife Padma Bogoju and his son Ratnakar Babu.
The Jeevandan authorities appreciated the family members for donating the organs for the noble cause. The surgeons retrieved the donor liver and based on the Jeevandan sub-committee guidelines, sent the donor organ to other transplant centres.
