Hyderabad: A 26-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after experiencing severe emotional distress, reportedly due to repeated difficulties in her marriage prospects.
The incident, which occurred under Kukatpally police station limits, came to light late on Monday.
The woman was identified as Topnival Vijayalakshmi, a native of Kandlakoya village in Medchal district.
Police said her father had died when she was young and that her mother suffers from mental illness. Vijayalakshmi had been living with her mother in Maitri Nagar, Kukatpally, and was solely responsible for her care.
Working at an IT firm, Vijayalakshmi had recently received marriage proposals. However, the talks reportedly failed as she insisted that her mother should live with her after marriage.
Police said she left her residence on Saturday evening and did not return. A missing complaint was lodged by her relative Abhishek on Sunday, following which a case was registered.
On Monday, the body of a young woman was found floating in Hussain Sagar. After being informed by lake police, Kukatpally police confirmed that the body was that of the missing woman.
Further investigation is on.
