Hyderabad: A government bungalow No 2, located at SR Nagar in the heart of the city and earmarked for the stay of All India Services ranked bureaucrats for the past 30 years, now remains abandoned due to officials’ apathy. It has turned into a dump yard and became a haven for unlawful activities.

The bungalow had been lying vacant for the past eight years due to apathy in allotting it to the needy officials. A total of six spacious bungalows are in the SR Nagar with the Roads & Buildings (R&B) Central Building Division being their custodian. Presently, bungalows No 1, 3, 4, and 5 are occupied, and the remaining 2 and 6 bungalows are lying vacant.

The bungalow’s entrance and exit gates show significant rust damage, whilst its doors and windows are in a state of disrepair. The doors and windows are damaged with the premises turning into a dump yard with dry leaves.

It is learned that there was tough competition among the senior IAS and IPS officers to occupy this bungalow during the united Andhra Pradesh government and even recommendations were made through the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

During the State bifurcation, bungalows numbered 1, 2, and 4 were allotted to Telangana and the remaining – numbered 3, 5, and 6, were allotted to Andhra Pradesh.

Originally, the entry into all six bungalows was adjacent to the S R Nagar Metro Station. However, the occupants are using the rear side of the bungalows as the main entrance is closed due to heavy sound pollution caused by round-the-clock heavy traffic. The area is densely populated due to educational institutions, hostels, and commercial units could be another reason for the change in entry.

The Executive Engineer, Roads and Buildings Department (Central Buildings Division), T A Ravindra Mohan, told Telangana Today, “The premises of the bungalow will be cleaned and painted once the bungalow is allotted by the GAD.” All the fittings in the bungalow will be done after the bungalow is officially allotted to someone, he said.
