Hyderabad: Man arrested for raping and impregnating 19-year-old girl who later died by suicide

A 19-year-old girl in Hyderabad died by suicide after being raped and impregnated by a man who misled her with false promises of marriage. The accused, who has a criminal record, was arrested and remanded by the Nacharam police.

Hyderabad: The Nacharam police have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly raping and impregnating a 19-year-old girl under the false promise of marriage. Unable to cope with the trauma, the girl died by suicide on July 2 at her residence in Nacharam.

The accused, D Mahendar alias Mahesh, a construction worker from Ambedkar Nagar, allegedly lured the girl by professing love and promising marriage, while concealing the fact that he was already married and had three children.

Police said Mahendar sexually assaulted the girl at his house and threatened her. The abuse resulted in her pregnancy. When she recently confronted him about marriage, he refused and allegedly provoked her to take her life.

Following a complaint from the girl’s family, Nacharam police registered a case and arrested Mahendar. Investigations revealed that he has a criminal background, including involvement in drug-related offences and crimes against women.

He was produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
