Hyderabad: The Mehdipatnam police on Monday arrested a man who allegedly used a fraudulent vehicle registration number to evade traffic challans and finance company agents.
According to the police, the accused, S Chidambaram, a resident of Sai Nagar, Mehdipatnam, purchased an Activa scooter in 2017 but failed to register the vehicle with the RTA.
Instead, he procured a fake number plate bearing registration number TS09FF7091. The number actually belonged to another vehicle registered under the name of A. Arjun, a resident of Nizamabad.
As Chidambaram drove around the city using the fraudulent plate, traffic challans generated by his violations were wrongly issued to Arjun. Upon realizing this, Arjun approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.
Using the surveillance camera network and footage database, the police tracked down and identified Chidambaram. He has since been arrested, and the vehicle has been seized.
