Hyderabad: A man who went to take a bath, drowned in a pond allegedly after his friends forcibly dragged him into the water at Kondapur in Ghatkesar here on Sunday evening. The police have booked his friends for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Police said M. Srinu (25), a private employee from Balaji Nagar in Ghatkesar along with his friends B. Pochaiah from Dammaiguda, O. Gopi from Balajinagar went to swim in the pond located on the outskirts of the village when the incident occurred.
“The friends got into the water to take a bath and asked him to join them, but he refused as he did not know swimming. Even after repeated requests, when he did not agree, they forcibly pushed him into the water thinking it would get rid of his fear,” police said.
However, a few minutes later, Srinu started drowning. His friends tried to rescue him, but in vain,” police said.
They alerted the local villagers and informed the Ghatkesar police, who reached the spot and with the help of swimmers, began searching for him. Nearly two hours later, Srinu’s body was retrieved from the pond.
The Ghatkesar police booked a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against Srinu’s friends and have taken up investigation.
“Though they had no intention to kill, due to their negligent and reckless behaviour, a life was lost. Hence, they were booked,” an official said.
The body was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital morgue for autopsy and handed over to the family on Monday.
