Hyderabad: Man held for selling spurious cotton seeds

The man, identified as Jalla Venkatiah (52) of Madgula Mandal in Ranga Reddy district, had stored the seeds in his shop and warehouse to sell it to farmers.

Hyderabad: The Special Operations Team of Rachakonda Police caught one person who was found selling cotton seeds that were past the expiry date and seized seeds worth Rs.43.40 lakh from him.

The man, identified as Jalla Venkatiah (52) of Madgula Mandal in Ranga Reddy district, had stored the seeds in his shop and warehouse to sell it to farmers.


Venkataiah was running a store Vinayaka Traders in Old Brahmanapally village of Madgula mandal in violation of guidelines issued by the Agriculture department.

“Venkataiah was selling expired seeds to farmers knowing well that it would cause them huge losses. On information, we raided the shop and godown and seized the property,” Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said.
