Malkajgiri SOT busts fake cotton seed operation, seizes stocks worth Rs 30 lakh

Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri SOT, along with the Trimulgherry police, busted a major spurious cotton seed racket and arrested three persons on Friday.
Officials seized seed pouches and suspected spurious cotton seeds worth Rs 30 lakh.
The arrested persons were identified as Y Balashowreddy alias Shiva Reddy, K Bejimen and D Srinu.
Police said the trio allegedly printed counterfeit cotton seed packets resembling those of a reputed seed company’s brand and planned to market unverified seeds as genuine products.
Based on a complaint from a seed company representative, the police intercepted a vehicle and arrested the accused.
Further investigation led to the recovery of around 2,000 kg of suspected spurious cotton seeds stored at an office in Bandlaguda.
