Hyderabad man loses Rs. 1.72 lakh after downloading fake app

A 34-year-old man from Secunderabad was duped of Rs 1.72 lakh after he unknowingly downloaded a malicious mobile application.

Hyderabad: A 34-year-old resident of Secunderabad lost Rs 1.72 lakh in a cyber fraud, allegedly after downloading a malicious mobile application disguised as an official transport department app.

According to the complainant, he received a WhatsApp message containing a malicious file. Believing it to be a genuine app, he downloaded it, resulting in his data being compromised.

Soon after, he began receiving alerts of unauthorised withdrawals from his bank account. The Hyderabad Cybercrime police have registered a case and are investigating.
