Hyderabad: Actress, producer and television personality Manchu Lakshmi Prasanna appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday to record her statement in connection with the betting app case.
The ED, which had recently issued notices to film personalities for promoting betting apps, summoned Lakshmi to appear before its investigation team at the ED zonal office in Basheerbagh.
She arrived at the office with all relevant documents, including bank statements, as sought by the officials. The questioning, expected to last about five hours, focused on her financial transactions and bank details.
Lakshmi, who had earlier acted in an advertisement for a betting app, was booked by Cyberabad police along with other noted actors for promoting betting. The ED initiated a parallel probe based on the FIR.
Authorities allege that promotions by film personalities drew many people to betting apps, leading to huge financial losses, with some victims reportedly dying by suicide.
The ED has so far issued notices to 36 film personalities. Senior actor Prakash Raj, and actors Vijay Deverakonda and Rana Daggubati have already appeared before officials and recorded their statements in connection with the case.
