Hyderabad: To accommodate the heavy rush in metro trains during Ganesh festivities, the Hyderabad Metro has decided to make special arrangements including running extra trains with higher frequency.

The HMRL in a statement on Sunday said heavy rush was seen in metro trains and stations in the last couple of weeks with the passenger numbers crossing the 5 lakh mark every day.

The visitors to Khairatabad Ganesh further added to the metro passenger rush and on Saturday, Khairatabad metro station was used by about 94,000 passengers, with 39,000 entries and 55,000 exits.

To facilitate and manage the heavy rush in metro trains in general and at Khairatabad station in particular, HMRL Managing Director NVS Reddy held a meeting with L&TMRHL Managing Director, KVB Reddy and other officers of both organizations to make special arrangements.

Accordingly, extra trains with higher frequency will be run during peak hours as per the need till the end of Ganesh idol immersions.

On Tuesday, trains will be operated beyond midnight and the last trains in all directions will leave at 1 am and reach respective destinations at around 2 am i.e., early hours of Wednesday.

Additional police and private security personnel were deployed at Khairatabad and Lakdi-ka-pul metro stations and security arrangements were being monitored by DSP rank officers of HMRL, the statement said.

Also, additional ticket counters would be opened at select metro stations to meet the demand.
