Hyderabad: The walls of the Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) Secunderabad Centre came alive with exploits and stories depicting the contribution of the gallant Indian soldiers in guarding the borders of our country against enemy forces. The ‘special assignment’ under which 60 murals were painted on the walls, was taken by third-year students of Fine Arts from Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU), in collaboration with officers of the Indian Army stationed at AOC.
The walls were given a makeover to mark the ensuing Army Ordnance Corps 11th reunion which falls in the first week of March, at the AOC Secunderabad Centre. The wall murals portray the valour of our bravehearts and Indian Army’s major contributions to the nation over the years. Some of the murals depict the Indo-Pakistan War of 1947-1948, ‘Operation Polo in September 1948, which was a military operation in which the Indian Armed Forces invaded the Nizam-ruled princely State of Hyderabad. One of the paintings shows Indian soldiers pulling an Army jeep in the tough hilly terrain on the Himalayan border during the Indo-China war in 1962. A series of portraits also depict the winners of gallantry awards as a tribute to their heroics.
Fine arts students of the 3-year 2nd semester have done good work and this will definitely help them perceive and narrate their creativity in a better manner even after they return to their studios. I am sure thousands of passers-by who will see these visual depictions and narrations running across the walls, will have a word of praise for the efforts put in by the students. It will also take them back in time to realize the sacrifices and contributions made by our Army jawans to make our country safe. And what else can be better than depicted these brave stories, through these thought-provoking murals,” Dr Preethi Samyukta, Head, Department of Painting, JNAFAU said.
