Hyderabad: The KPHB police on Tuesday arrested nine persons in connection with the murder of Amar Barik alias Rajesh (32), a migrant worker from Odisha, last Wednesday.
The victim was reportedly looking to buy food to take home for his wife and children but was allegedly mistaken to be a thief and thrashed in a biryani restaurant, leading to his death the next day.
The arrested persons are M Aravind Chowdary (29), restaurant supervisor, G Rakesh (26), supervisor, Hemanth Behara (26), P Manjunath (32), Ranjith (23), D Shiva Rama Raju (30), Amulya Kumar (26), J Rajashekhar and G Vamsi (25), all working at the biryani restaurant.
According to the police, Rajesh, a resident of Izzat Nagar in Madhapur, was working as a construction worker at a site in Bachupally. Around midnight on Wednesday, Rajesh, who allegedly went to the eatery for food was attacked by the suspects, who were celebrating Aravind’s birthday and having a liquor party, in the basement of the restaurant.
“On seeing them, Rajesh requested if they could give him some leftover food. They say they thought he was a thief and started abusing and thrashing him. He suffered multiple injuries and collapsed,” police said, adding that the men then left the place, leaving him unconscious in the basement.
On receiving information, Rajesh’s wife Sathyabhama, reached the spot and took him to their house. However, his condition worsened and he died before being shifted to the hospital late on Thursday evening.
