Hyderabad: Upset over lack of proper hostel infrastructure, nearly 200 nursing students of Gandhi Hospital protested in the hospital campus on Thursday.
The nursing students maintained that despite making complaints on multiple occasions about lack of proper drainage system in their hostels, the hospital management failed to address the issue.
During the course of their protests, the students also tried to barge into the hospital’s administrative building and lay siege to the Superintendent’s chambers.
The protestors complained their hostels in Bhoiguda near Secunderabad railway station did not have proper drainage system due to which several interior sections of their hostels were now inundated with sewerage and the entire building stinks.
“We have to prepare for our examinations that start from November 23. Because of the stink and inundation, we are neither able to sleep properly nor prepare for examinations. We have raised the issue with the authorities on several occasions but so far the issue has not been resolved,” they said.
Superintendent of Gandhi Hospital, Dr Rajkumari held talks with the protesting nurses on Thursday and promised to take action on their grievances. Talks between the Superintendent and nursing students are expected to continue on Friday.
