Hyderabad: Enigma Automobiles, an electric mobility company, is lining up new electric vehicles to cater to B2C and B2B segments, and in order to tap the southern market better, is exploring to set up a new unit in Hyderabad or Coimbatore.
The company operates its own manufacturing unit at Mandideep, Bhopal and a collaborative manufacturing unit at Uppal, Hyderabad collectively spanning over 60,000 sq ft, producing 60,000 vehicles per annum. Enigma will also be adding a new assembly line at Bhopal besides strengthening its R&D and testing capabilities.
Enigma plans to achieve 100 per cent localisation by 2022 and is also working on a home-grown lithium-ion battery unit. It plans to sell up to 3 lakh electric bikes in India by 2025. To launch new vehicles, the company is planning to raise funds.
Anmol Bohre, managing director & co-founder, Enigma, told Telangana Today in an exclusive interview, “To cater to markets across India, we are looking at a hub and spoke model as it will keep the logistic costs low. We are also exploring different battery alternatives. In Hyderabad, we already have a collaborative manufacturing arrangement and in the next three months, we are seeing a possibility to create an EV and battery making unit with an initial investment of Rs 2 crore.”
Product line-up
On phase-wise achievements, Bohre said, “We launched our first lot of electric two-wheelers in 2018 and introduced several innovations since then. In September 2019, we set up our first company-owned showroom. We had our own learning in sourcing batteries. We researched and came out with a clear plan on what batteries suit rural and urban electric vehicle users based on their usage patterns.”
Enigma has so far launched three electric vehicles in India – Ambier, Crink and GT 450, and is rolling out an electric bike ‘Cafe Racer’ priced at Rs 1 lakh by March 2022. Cafe Racer will have a top speed of 136 kmph and battery life of 5,000 cycles.
He added, “We are targeting rural customers and cost-conscious buyers for Ambier. Our e-scooter Crink is targeted at those buyers who are conscious about their lifestyle and want to own a retro scooter, while GT 450 is targeted at millennials who are looking for an aggressive vehicle. We have kept the vehicle and motor configuration common to all our vehicles to offer a uniform user experience, with differences only in seat height, ground clearance and weight carrying capacity.”
To cater to the B2B segment, the company plans to soon come out with a new vehicle H1 (loader vehicle that can carry up to 80kg of goods) targeting e-commerce and delivery companies.
The company, which has sold 5,000 vehicles pan-India so far, plans to open showrooms in Hyderabad and Bengaluru as these markets are promising. Enigma aims to capture 10 per cent market share in the country by 2025 and is also focusing on tier II and tier III markets to drive electric vehicle adoption and bring accessibility, he added.
