Hyderabad: The Narsingi police arrested one person on charges of organizing online betting on the Madras and Delhi horse races at Puppalguda on Tuesday night. He organized online betting on live horse races on WhatsApp groups.
Police seized Rs.21 lakh, a mobile phone and a laptop from M. Kranthi Kumar (33) a realtor from Puppalguda and a native of Amangal in Ranga Reddy.
According to the police, Kranthi Kumar, along with other registered licensed bookies had earlier created a WhatsApp group for punters. Kranthi fraudulently created another parallel WhatsApp group and forwarded betting odds from the main group and was running a parallel betting centre.
“The mode of money transaction from the punters was only through online. After the race, he deceived the punters that they had lost the bets,” police said.
