Hyderabad: Osmania University will confer its 50th honorary doctorate on ISRO Chairman Dr V Narayanan during its 84th convocation ceremony scheduled for August 19.

The ISRO Chief will also deliver the convocation address.

This time, a record number of 1,261 PhD degrees will be awarded, up from 979 degrees awarded in the previous convocation.

The University will present 121 gold medals to students from the academic years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, recognising their achievements across various disciplines.

The University will also award a new gold medal for the best PhD thesis in English by a tribal student, an initiative by the Chancellor and Telangana Governor.

Commissioner of Technical and Collegiate Education A Sridevasena has instituted the Professor Samudrala Satyanarayana Murthy Memorial gold medal for the top student in MBA Finance.

According to OU Vice Chancellor Prof M Kumar, entry to the Tagore Auditorium, where the event will be held, is restricted to PhD awardees and gold medal recipients only due to limited seating.

Family members, including parents and spouses, can view the ceremony live on a large digital screen located next to the auditorium, he said, adding that attendees should not bring their children to the event.

Stating that mobile phones are prohibited inside the main auditorium, Prof Kumar said designated areas for photography and selfies will be available.
