Students, raising slogans 'We want water, we want justice', squat on the Osmania University main road in Hyderabad on Sunday.
Hyderabad: Around 200 women students of the Osmania University (OU) on Sunday night hit the streets on the campus over water woes in the new Centenary Hostel.
Students, raising slogans ‘We want water, we want justice’, squatted on the university main road. The protesters expressed their frustration, stating that the hostel was facing a severe water crisis. They decided to continue the protest until the chief warden addresses the issue.
“For the last two days, there has been no water in the hostel. When we raised the issue, hostel officials arranged two water tankers. However, it is not sufficient for 700 students staying in the hostel. A few weeks ago, we faced the same issue and the officials assured us that the issue will be resolved. Now, we want a permanent solution,” said Akshaya, a first-year MSc Geography student.
The women students also expressed their anger over poor quality food, laced with cockroaches and worms, being served in the hostel mess. They fumed that despite raising the issue with the officials several times, it persisted.
“A few days ago, one student found a cockroach in the food. When we brought the issue to the notice of the superintendent, we were assured that it would not recur. But today, we found chicken feathers in food as the chicken was not properly cleaned,” Akashya complained.
On March 11, New Godavari Hostel students staged a massive protest on the campus after finding a razor blade in the food.
