Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police are gearing up for the 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival beginning on Friday. A series of meetings were held between the City Police and different departments for better coordination and planning to ensure the smooth passing of the festival.

City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar told Telangana Today that around 15,000 policemen would be deployed across the city to ensure safety and security of the citizens.

“It is an opportunity for the Hyderabad City Police to arrange bandobast for as Ganesh Chaturthi is the most important festival going on since pre-independence era,” he said.

The police expect around one million people to participate in the main immersion event on September 19. Meanwhile, 32 cranes have been installed to help immerse around 30,000 idols at Tank Bund, NTR Marg and PVNR Marg.

“Last year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there were no crowds and symbolic festivities were reported. This year we expect more rush,” he said. Additional forces will arrive in the city to assist the local police. All wings including Traffic, Law and Order, Special Branch and City Security Wing will work round the clock during the period.

“A series of meetings were held from police station to zonal level. Emphasis is being laid on removing obstacles on the procession routes including welcome stages at various points,”

Anjani Kumar said. The police will also take geo-tagging of all the idols installed in the city with local SHOs to have a WhatsApp group for better coordination. “Senior police officials will be supervising the bandobast arrangements and the City Police are in coordination with intelligence agencies also,” he said, adding that the Hyderabad City Police took immense pride in arranging security for the festival and appealed to the people to cooperate with the police.
