Hyderabad: In a unique protest, Telangana all Universities part-time teachers organised a ‘Vanta-Varpu’ (cooking in the street) on the Osmania University campus here on Friday, demanding job security.
A large number of part-time teachers, including men and women, brought vegetables, finely chopped them and cooked the food at the university administrative building as part of the protest.
The protesters who had called for an indefinite strike have been demanding the State government address their issues, including job security.
Opposing the GO Ms No.21, the teachers accused the government of trying to push the part-time faculty – who have worked for years on the lowest wages and without any job security – out into the job market.
They wanted the government to provide them weightage in the GO Ms No.21 issued for recruiting regular assistant professors in the universities.
