Hyderabad: A webinar on ‘Balancing the diet to balance nutrition’ was conducted by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Regional Outreach Bureau on Wednesday.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. GM Subba Rao, scientist at ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, said, “Providing nutrition during the first 1000 days is crucial for mental and physical growth of a baby. It is also important for the mother to have a very balanced and nutritious diet as well, to ensure immunity.” He further added that breastfeeding for the first six months promotes cognitive and sensitive development and renders maximum protection against disease.


Dr. Rao also emphasised on the importance of a balanced diet for all and said it should include at least 350 grams of vegetables and 150 grams of fruits on a daily basis, in addition to nuts and healthy fats.

Delivering the inaugural address, Shruti Patil, Director, PIB & ROB, said this webinar was organised as September is observed as Poshan Maah (National Nutrition Month) by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.

Telangana government officials, anganwadi workers participated in the webinar among others.
