Hyderabad pilgrim killed, family members injured in Riyadh airport attack
A Hyderabad resident who had travelled for Umrah was killed and three of his family members were injured during an attack on Riyadh airport in Saudi Arabia while awaiting transit. AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi confirmed the death, and urged the Centre to extend all possible assistance to the affected family.
Hyderabad: A man from Hyderabad died and three of his family members suffered injuries during an attack on Riyadh airport in Saudi Arabia, where they were waiting for transit after performing Umrah as part of a 13-member group.
Mohammed Yusuf Ali, a resident of Mehdipatnam, was reportedly killed when a portion of the airport roof fell on him during the attack, allegedly carried out by the Houthis.
AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi confirmed Yusuf Ali’s death and appealed to the Centre to extend all possible assistance to the bereaved family.
“It’s been confirmed that Yousuf sahab has passed away in the attack. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” Asaduddin Owaisi said in a statement.
UPDATE: It’s been confirmed that Yousuf sahab has passed away in the attack. Innalilahi wa inna ilahir rajioon. His son is undergoing knee surgery, another son is in the hospital and 3 of his toes have been cut off. His daughter and wife are safe. His aunt (chachi) was with them, and suffered injuries to the head but is out of danger. I am in touch with Yousuf’s brother in law in Riyadh and the DCM has assured me that they’re taking care. @DrSJaishankar every possible assistance should be provided to the family. The family is from Mehdipatnam in Hyderabad.
Yusuf Ali’s son Amaan sustained a knee injury and underwent surgery, while his other son, Wasey, is receiving treatment for a leg injury. Asaduddin Owaisi said three of Wasey’s toes had been severed in the incident.
Yusuf Ali’s wife, Sameera, and daughter, Maryam, escaped unhurt. His aunt, Atiya Sultana, sustained head injuries and was receiving treatment, though she was believed to be out of danger.
Asaduddin Owaisi said he was in touch with Yusuf Ali’s brother-in-law in Riyadh and that the Deputy Chief of Mission had assured him that the family was being taken care of. He also urged External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to ensure that all possible assistance was provided to the family.
