Hyderabad police bust job scam targeting overseas aspirants; two arrested
Hyderabad police have busted a job scam in which a group cheated unemployed youth by promising overseas employment and collected nearly Rs 60 lakh. Two persons were arrested, while efforts are underway to trace other accused in the case.
Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills police have uncovered a major fraud in which a group allegedly cheated unemployed youth by promising overseas jobs and collected nearly Rs 60 lakh. Two persons from the group were arrested.
The suspects, L Nirupama and M Arun Raju, posed as operators of an overseas consultancy on social media and lured job seekers with fake job offers abroad. Without authorisation from the Ministry of External Affairs, they allegedly collected Rs 4 to Rs 5 lakh from each victim.
To gain trust, the duo issued fake work authorization letters. After receiving the money, they stopped responding to calls and messages. Around 15 victims approached the police, reporting the fraud.
Officials said efforts were on to trace eight more individuals, including the firm’s founder and CEO, who are absconding.
Police said the gang was earlier involved in similar frauds in KPHB Colony and suspect that the number of victims could be much higher.
