Hyderabad: In a series of surprise raids, police detained 37 youths at hookah centres in the LB Nagar and Nagole areas on Friday night.

The raids were conducted under the supervision of LB Nagar ACP Krishnaiah, who personally led the operation without prior intimation even to the local Circle Inspector.

At a hookah centre in Sai Nagar under Nagole police station limits, police took 25 youths into custody for consuming hookah and seized a large quantity of hookah equipment.

Subsequently, another inspection was carried out at a hookah centre in LB Nagar, where 12 more youths were detained. Police again seized hookah-related materials from the premises.

ACP Krishnaiah warned that strict action would be taken against anyone involved in unlawful or anti-social activities. “Blood samples of the detained youths have been collected and sent for testing, and further action will be initiated based on the reports,” he said.

Police also made it clear that operating hookah centres in violation of norms or engaging in activities that disturb public order will invite stringent action.
