Hyderabad police form panel after BRS alleges assault on MLAs outside Assembly

Hyderabad police have constituted a team led by Joint Commissioner SM Vijay Kumar to investigate allegations that BRS legislators, including women MLAs, were manhandled by police outside the Telangana Assembly.

Hyderabad: A team headed by Joint Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, SM Vijay Kumar will probe the entire episode surrounding the alleged manhandling of BRS MLAs outside the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Monday.

BRS leaders, including party working president KT Rama Rao and MLAs T. Harish Rao and P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, among others, were allegedly manhandled by police personnel while they were on their way to attend the Assembly session.

The BRS leaders subsequently approached the High Court seeking an inquiry into the conduct of the police personnel who allegedly misbehaved with women legislators and manhandled other party leaders. The party also sought action against the police personnel responsible for the incident.

Following the court’s directions, the Hyderabad police constituted a team headed by Vijay Kumar to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident. The team will examine the circumstances surrounding the episode and submit its report.

The incident occurred amid heightened political tensions during the ongoing Assembly session, with the BRS alleging that its legislators were prevented from entering the Assembly and were subjected to manhandling by police personnel. The alleged treatment of women legislators also drew criticism from the BRS leadership, which sought accountability and action against those responsible.
