Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar on Friday issued a formal notice to retired IPS officer and BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar, seeking details to substantiate allegations he made against the chief of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the phone-tapping case.
According to the police, Praveen Kumar, while addressing the media on Friday, alleged that the SIT chief was involved in seven criminal cases and demanded the constitution of another SIT to probe him. The police termed these remarks as defamatory, irresponsible and misleading, stating that they were made without any supporting evidence.
In the notice, the Commissioner said public statements had the potential to damage the credibility of the SIT, obstruct official duties and prejudice an ongoing investigation.
Praveen Kumar has been asked to submit full particulars of the alleged cases within two days, including crime numbers, police stations, sections of law, dates of registration, present status of cases and supporting documents such as FIRs or court records.
The notice further warned that failure to provide the required information within the stipulated time would invite appropriate civil and criminal action, including proceedings for defamation, as per law.
