HYDERABAD: The South Zone Task Force police officials on Tuesday nabbed a person involved in the sale of rare Alexandrine parrots in the city.

The officials seized the two-wheeler and handed over the parrots to the forest officials at Aranya Bhavan. Farooq was involved in buying the parrots and selling them elsewhere, the officials said.

As per the Wildlife Act, 1972, hunting, selling, and keeping Alexandrine parrots at homes was prohibited, PCCF R M Dobriyal said.

When Farooq was questioned, he said that a pair of parrots was being sold for Rs 1,000. Persons involved in smuggling of parrots can be imprisoned for three to seven years, he added. The PCCF directed the officials to shift the parrots to Nehru Zoological Park.
