HYDERABAD: The South Zone Task Force police officials on Tuesday nabbed a person involved in the sale of rare Alexandrine parrots in the city.
The task force officials noticed one MohdFarooq transporting the Alexandrine parrots on a two-wheeler near the High Court. When they stopped the two-wheeler and checked the crates, they found 110 Alexandrine parrots.
The officials seized the two-wheeler and handed over the parrots to the forest officials at AranyaBhavan.Farooq was involved in buying the parrots and selling them elsewhere, the officials said.
As per the Wildlife Act, 1972, hunting, selling, and keeping Alexandrine parrots at homes was prohibited, PCCF R M Dobriyal said.
When Farooq was questioned, he said that a pair of parrots was being sold for Rs 1,000. Persons involved in smuggling of parrots can be imprisoned for three to seven years, he added. The PCCF directed the officials to shift the parrots to Nehru Zoological Park.
