Hyderabad: Nearly 22,000 visitors thronged the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad on Tuesday on account of the Dussehra festival holiday.
The zoo authorities made elaborate arrangements to manage the rush and ensure the safety and convenience of visitors. Security personnel were deployed at key locations, while arrangements were made to regulate the movement of visitors and facilitate access to various enclosures and attractions.
The zoo, spread over a large area, remains a popular destination for families and children during holidays, with visitors keen to see its diverse collection of wildlife.
The recent addition of new animals has further enhanced its attractions. Two male mandrills were brought to the zoo in March under an animal exchange programme with Jamshedpur Zoo, while three zebras were introduced last year after a gap of 37 years.
The zoo is also expected to receive kangaroos, wallabies, ring-tailed lemurs and a cassowary from Vantara, a wildlife rescue and conservation centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The proposed additions are expected to diversify its animal collection and draw more visitors.
