Hyderabad: In a major catch, the Hyderabad police seized 908 kg of ganja from three persons on Thursday while it was being transported to Maharashtra.
Acting on a tip-off, the Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force, along with the Bandlaguda police, caught three persons, Mohammed Kaleemuddin (32) of Golconda, Shaik Sohail (23) of Amberpet and Mohammed Afzal (23) of Patelnagar. Four other suspects, Rahman of Hyderabad, Jithu of Odisha, Suresh of Srikakulam and Mahesh of Maharashtra, are absconding.
According to S Chaitanya Kumar, DCP (south east), the trio who were arrested are friends for a long time and were previously into PDS rice smuggling business. Rahman is the elder brother of Kaleem. Recently, Rahman met Jithu and Suresh and discussed the ganja transportation. They agreed to pay Rahman Rs 3 to Rs 5 lakh for transporting ganja to Nashik from Odisha. “Rahman agreed to the proposal and asked his brother Kaleem to go to Malkangiri and bring the ganja,” said Chaitanya Kumar.
A week ago, Kaleem headed to Malkangiri and collected ganja. He concealed the contraband under the cashew shell load that he had collected in Srikakulam and returned to the city. He parked his truck at Patelnagar, Amberpet.
“On Wednesday night, Kaleem, Sohail and Afzal started in their vehicle from Amberpet to go to Nashik to deliver the ganja consignment to Mahesh. On information, the police caught them at Bandlaguda,” said the official.
The police are making efforts to nab Mahesh, Jittu, Suresh and Rahman, who are absconding.
