Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police took into custody Immadhi Ravi, the alleged mastermind behind the iBomma piracy network, from Central Prison Chanchalguda on Thursday.
A local court had granted the police five day custody of the suspect after the police filed a custody petition before the court.
The police had arrested Ravi, who had arrived from France last week and remanded him in a case related to movie piracy. Ravi through his network was uploading the movies on different websites including ‘iBomma’. The police said Ravi earned hundreds of crores of rupees through the illicit business and made huge investments.
The police are likely to seize the properties acquired through the ill-gotten wealth and also verify the benamis on whose name Ravi is suspected to have purchased properties and made huge investments.
The Hyderabad Cyber Crime police have argued that Ravi had colluded with betting platform operators and posed a direct threat to the nation’s financial stability and digital safety.
