Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police have warned citizens, particularly youngsters and college students, against the ‘Lucky Wheel Spin Fraud’, of which there have been several victims of late.
Police said phishing links that redirected those who clicked them to a lucky spin wheel were circulating on social media platforms including WhatsApp and e-commerce websites. Once the wheel was spun, a pop-up would appear saying the person had won a prize and ask them to share the link to others.
“Through these links, the data of the user was getting compromised and money was getting debited from their accounts,” police said, adding that the Cybercrime police station here had got several complaints on this.
The police have asked the public not to click on links circulating in social media platforms. Gift offers and online prizes were usually not genuine and had to be verified, they said, stressing that clicking on such links could compromise personal data, including bank account details.
