Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police warned the citizens against falling prey to cyber fraudsters who are scamming people on pretext of discounted tickets for the upcoming SunRisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers, Bengaluru to be held on May 22 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium Uppal.
Taking to microblogging site “X”, (formerly twitter), Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, VC Sajjanar said that the scammers have launched a scheme to defraud people using fake apps and websites.
“Currently, numerous advertisements regarding IPL ticket bookings are appearing across various social media platforms. Fraudsters have created fake apps featuring color schemes and logos that closely mimic ‘District’—the official ticketing partner—and are luring fans with promises of tickets at discounted prices. If you click on these fraudulent links—which are designed to look exactly like the genuine app—and attempt to book tickets, the loss of your money is inevitable,” warned Hyderabad CP, VC Sajjanar.
He said that the people will not receive any tickets after making a payment, also there is also a significant risk that your banking details could fall into the hands of cyber criminals.
“Do not let your excitement to watch the match lead you to trust unofficial links found on social media and fall victim to fraud. We are currently keeping a close watch on such fake apps and websites. If anyone comes across information regarding such fake apps or websites, they should immediately report it to the police,” the official said.
