Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed at Parsigutta ‘X’ roads on Wednesday as family members, friends, relatives and local political leaders staged a protest demanding urgent action to trace 25-year-old Dinesh alias Sunny, who was swept away in a nala during Sunday night’s heavy rains.
According to locals, Dinesh was returning home late in the evening when he attempted to cross the overflowing nala at Vinobha Nagar. The strong current dragged him away and he has been missing since. Despite rescue efforts initiated by the Disaster Response Force (DRF) and police, no breakthrough has been reported so far. His scooter was recovered the next day from a manhole in Parsigutta, several metres from the spot where he went missing.
Angry over the delay, relatives and residents blocked the road near the accident site, raising slogans against civic authorities for failing to take preventive measures despite repeated complaints about the open and unprotected nala stretch. Several local political leaders joined the protest, extending solidarity with the family and urging the administration to intensify rescue operations.
“The nala is a death trap. Every year we face the same problem during the monsoon. How many more lives must be lost before officials act and take preventive steps,” said a protester.
Police pacified the crowd and assured that rescue operations would continue until Dinesh is found. GHMC officials stated that multiple teams with boats and search equipment were deployed along the nala stretch extending up to the Musi River.
