Hyderabad: A youngster who was arrested on charges of robbery by the Shankarpally police escaped from custody on Friday only to be caught later in the evening.
Mohd Arshad Khan (22), a resident of Shankarpally and native of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested along with five others by the Shankarpally police for robbing a person of Rs 27,500 and his mobile phone. The gang was involved in seven cases registered in Shankarpally, Vikarabad, Bhanoor, Kondapur and Mominpet police station limits. On Friday, the police were shifting them to the Central Prison in Cherlapally when Arshad Khan said he wanted to relieve himself. The police allowed him to go to the toilet in the police station. “He went into the toilet and removed the window grill and escaped,” a senior official said. The remaining persons were shifted to the Central Prison while special teams were formed to nab Khan.
According to the police, by evening, with the help of locals, he was caught on the outskirts of Shankarpally. The police had used drones to scan the forest areas around Shankarpally and also used a tracker dog. “With the help of local people, a combing operation was also launched. He was finally caught in the evening,” police said.
