Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a teenage girl died and her father and younger brother suffered injuries after a TGSRTC bus allegedly hit them at Jubilee Hills Road No.5 on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 2 pm when the girl, identified as Keerthika (14), a Class VIII student of a local government school and a resident of Jubilee Hills Road No.58, was returning home from school on a bike along with her father Prasad, a watchman, and her younger brother Sai.
According to the police, when they reached Jubilee Hills Road No.5 near the metro station, an RTC electric bus, which was allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner, collided with their bike and all three fell on the left side of the road. While Keerthika came directly under the rear wheel of the bus and died on the spot due to a head injury, her brother suffered fractures and her father escaped with minor injuries.
Preliminary investigation indicated that rash and negligent driving of the bus, a private car parked blocking the road passage, and overflowing sewage were the combined reasons for the mishap.
“The bike rider, in an attempt to avoid the sewage water, moved to the right, but his way was blocked by the parked car at the spot. At the same time, the bus driver, without slowing down, came and collided with the bike. We suspect the girl’s school bag may have collided first, leading to the fall,” said a police officer.
Based on a complaint from the child’s father, the Jubilee Hills police have booked a case of negligence causing death and injuries against the bus driver, civic authorities and the private car owner, and are investigating.
