Hyderabad: In a dramatic turn of events at Shalibanda on Monday late at night, time quite literally stood still.
As flames engulfed the Gomati Electronics showroom, a sudden explosion from a parked CNG car sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood.
The impact and the reverberation of the blast were powerful enough to halt the century-old Raja Rai Clock Tower or Raja Rai Rayan Devdi Gadiyal, also popularly known as the Shah-Ali-Banda clock tower.
Residents recall a deafening blast that echoed through the narrow lanes of the Old City. Moments later, they noticed the clock hands frozen at 10.25 pm, the exact moment the explosion is believed to have occurred.
For many local residents, the tower is more than just a clock, but a symbol woven into their everyday lives. Seeing it stop brought a sense of shock and disbelief.
Meanwhile, the Moghalpura Police and Fire Department officials are now investigating the cause of both the fire and the CNG car blast. The CCTV footage and videos captured by bystanders are being examined to piece together the sequence of events.
While the flames have been doused, the incident has left its impact, not just on property, but on the hearts of those who watched the clock tower literally freeze under the impact of the blast.
