Hyderabad: A local court in LB Nagar on Monday sentenced six persons to life imprisonment on charges of a gang rape in Miyapur in 2019. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 each on them.
The convicted persons were Shaik Shaukath (35), a centering worker, Mohd Khalid alias Abbu (22), Mohd Afroz (20), mobile technician, Abdul Salman Khan (20), an AC technician, Shaik Salman (22), a car driver and Mujahid Khan (20), an auto-rickshaw driver, all residents of New Hafeezpet in Miyapur.
It was in January 2019 that the six, along with a juvenile boy, were having a liquor party near the Hafeezpet railway tracks and caught the victim, who went to relieve herself in the bushes. They attacked her male friend, who tried to rescue her and dragged the victim into the bushes and gang-raped her.
Based on a complaint from the victim’s friend, the Miyapur police booked a case and subsequently arrested the gang. The case against the juvenile boy is pending for trial at the Juvenile Court in LB Nagar.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar appreciated the investigation officer and team for their efforts in securing conviction in the case.
