Hyderabad: Sri Lanka Deputy High Commissioner joins Green Challenge
I congratulate the Telangana government for improving green cover in the State and launching new programmes to curb global warming

Hyderabad: Sri Lanka Deputy High Commissioner D Venkateshwaran on Thursday planted a sapling at Prashashan Nagar park in Jubilee Hills as part of Green India Challenge (GIC) initiated by Rajya Sabha MP J Santhosh Kumar.
Expressing happiness over the novel programme, he said: “I congratulate the Telangana government for improving green cover in the State and launching new programmes to curb global warming”. Venkateshwaran further said the GIC was a much needed initiative and appreciated Santosh Kumar for launching the programme. He said planting saplings was the best option before mankind to save nature.
The Sri Lanka Deputy Commissioner assured that the initiative will be extended to Sri Lanka. “I will invite Santosh Kumar and introduce him to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to launch Green India Challenge programme in Sri Lanka,” Venkateshwaran said.
Telangana State Tourism Corporation Development Chairman Uppala Srinivas Gupta and others participated in the programme.
Meanwhile, Indian cricketer Hanuma Vihari participated in the GIC and planted saplings at his residence in Surabhi Enclave, Bolarum . The cricketer said: “I am happy to participate in GIC initiated by Santosh Kumar.” Vihari nominated cricketer Mohammad Siraj, former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid and Krishna Priya for the Challenge.
