Hyderabad: The startup ecosystem in Hyderabad has seen a high degree of growth in the last few years. The innovation-centric approach of the government by establishing incubators like T-Hub and WE Hub along with technology-focused institutions like IIIT-H, IIT-H, and also innovation-led entities such as RICH, TASK, TSIC and TWorks has pushed the envelope for the startup ecosystem in the city.

According to a recent report, the number of startups founded in the last three years from 2019 till 2021 is 933, and the total funding during the same period was $515 million. In contrast, the number of startups founded between 2016 and 2018 when the ecosystem was at its nascent stage stood at 1,438 even though the total funding was $274 million.


Tracxn’s annual report showed that in terms of market share for total startups founded in 2019-21 was at 7 per cent, while the market share for equity funding raised stood at 1 per cent. The city featured in the top five cities in terms of both startups founded and the funding received since 2016.

On pan-India basis, investments jumped three times from $13 billion in 2020 to $35 billion in 2021. In addition, in terms of the number of unicorns created, the number jumped from 16 unicorns in 2020 to 41 in 2021. In terms of total startups founded and total equity funding raised between 2019 and 2021, Delhi NCR topped the list with 4,413 and $18,830 million respectively.
