Hyderabad: Jubilee Hills, for long, has been known as an upscale residential area. But the growth of the city’s IT hub, not too far from the area, has seen Jubilee Hills too growing into a busy commercial hub. And that, in turn, has seen the traffic through the area also increasing manifold.
This has prompted the authorities to think of ways to ensure smooth flow of traffic through the different ways that connect to Jubilee Hills, including from the IT hub via Shaikpet.
Now, the traffic congestion on this route is all set to ease with the construction of a four-lane steel bridge at Silent Lake Valley, Road Number 51, Jubilee Hills moving into the final stages. The 290-metre four-lane steel bridge is being built by the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation Ltd (HRDCL) at an estimated cost of Rs 23 crore.
This will be the fifth steel bridge in Hyderabad, with the others being at Indira Park – VST Junction, Malakpet and Punjagutta (two).
Minor civic works are progressing around the steel bridge at Road Number 51 and the service roads are also being developed. HRDCL officials said the bridge could take the load of heavy vehicles and that the four-lane bridge would ease the traffic on Shaikpet – Jubilee Hills stretch. “Using this facility, traffic from Shaikpet towards Jubilee Hills will move smoothly and the travel time too will decrease considerably,” officials said.
In addition to decongesting the Shaikpet- Jubilee Hills route, once the facility is made available, it will also ensure a smooth journey for people going to the Old Bombay Highway from Shaikpet. Taking the steel bridge, the traffic can go up to Leather Park (Old Bombay Highway) using the link road inaugurated in November, 2020 making the commute hassle-free.
In addition to building the steel bridge, the HRDCL is currently developing additional link roads in the western part of the city to improve connectivity and decrease the traffic on the main roads.
The steel bridge made available to the public prior to this was the one at Punjagutta. The facility, inaugurated in January, made travelling to the KBR Park Junction from Nagarjuna Circle, Punjagutta via Banjara Hills Road Number 3 a different experience with the new Punjagutta Access Road Steel Bridge and the widened road easing the regular congestion along the route. This was also the second steel bridge at Punjagutta.
