Hyderabad: With Telugu theatre scene struggling to get by pre-pandemic and during pandemic, many youngsters part of the popular Surabhi theatre group began to look at alternative careers to make a living. Sensing this, Surabhi family member Dr. Ramesh Sindhe who is holds a PhD in theatre arts initiated a revival programme to get youngsters interested in pursuing theatre again.
He started conducting acting workshops for Surabhi youngsters over three months, in collaboration with the Department of Language and Culture. Theatre experts, actors, trainers taught the participants traditional play techniques along with the modern theatre and acting techniques, with an objective to impart knowledge and fetch them opportunities in the fields of cinema and TV .
The three-month workshop culminated in a theatre festival conducted at Rangbhoomi Cultural Space, Gachibowli. Three plays were performed by 25 participants, on this occasion. They were all directed by Dr Ramesh Sindhe, The three plays — Rachabanda (short play written by Ravula Pullachary), Sorry! Wrong Number (short play written by SA Rao), Gograhanam (play written by Tanikella Bharani).
Eminent actor and writer Tanikella Bharani graced the occasion as the chief guest. He was all praise for the Surabhi actors who brought his 40-year-old stage play into life once again. Dr. Ramesh said that he was empowering the youngsters with modern acting techniques in order to revive the theatre group in which he lived and thrived. He expressed his gratitude to the Mamidi Harikrishna, director, Department of Language and Culture, for his support in the acting workshop.
