Hyderabad: A senior surgeon from Hyderabad, sitting in a Tongjin Hospital, Wuhan, China, has successfully conducted a remote robotic-assisted surgery on a 57-year-old patient at Hyderabad-based Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU).

Dr Syed Md Ghouse, Director of Robotic and Minimal Access Urological Surgery from AINU, who was in Wuhan, China, performed tele-robotic ureteric reimplantation across nearly 3,900 km (by air), on a patient at AINU in Hyderabad.

The surgical team performed a robotic-assisted anti-reflux ureteric reimplantation to restore normal urine flow. Using advanced robotic technology, with less than 100 milliseconds of latency, the surgery was executed with real-time precision, a press release said.

“With robotic platforms and robust connectivity, we can now deliver highly specialised procedures across continents with the same precision as being physically present,” Dr Syed Md Ghouse said.

The complex urological procedure was conducted using a state-of-the-art robotic surgical system. The patient was operated on by a twin team of Urosurgeons at the AINU Hospital in Hyderabad and Tongjin Hospital, China.
