Hyderabad: Specialists at LBR Dental and Implant Center, Madhapur performed a complex maxillofacial surgery to restore the upper jaw of a 55-year-old-patient from Karimnagar.
The patient had lost the jaw due to Mucormycosis after recovering from Covid and the hospital implant surgeons employed advanced dental implants including BioLine Zygomatic and Tubero Pterygoid to restore the jaw and give a chance to the patient to lead a normal life, a press release said.
According to the doctors, the patient had recovered from Covid but got infected with Mucormycosis and after prolonged treatment, recovered from the fungal infection but in the process lost major portion of his upper jaw. This made it impossible for him to chew or swallow food.
Chief implant surgeon, Dr K.A. Reddy, endodentist, Dr Swapnil Pandey, oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr Rangnath Jawar led the maxillofacial surgery.
“This is for the first time that such high-end implants were utilised on a Mucormycosis patient who had no bone left. The entire surgery was done under local anesthesia and fixed teeth were replaced in three-days,” Dr Reddy, said. The patient can now lead a normal life, as this is a permanent life time treatment, doctors added.
