Hyderabad: A 15-year-old girl, Pavani, who was critically injured in a house fire in Chevella, succumbed to her injuries on Monday night, taking the death toll to two in the incident.
She had been undergoing treatment after sustaining severe burns in the early morning fire at Kandawada village on Monday. Her mother, Lavanya (40), had died earlier while being shifted to hospital.
Police said Lavanya’s husband, Srinivas, works with a commission agent at the local market yard and had reportedly gone to the bathroom around 5 am, when the fire broke out in the kitchen where Lavanya was cooking.
Both Lavanya and Pavani suffered critical burn injuries, while Srinivas escaped with minor injuries. The couple’s son, who was in another room, was unharmed.
Meanwhile, Lavanya’s parents have alleged foul play, suspecting Srinivas’s role in the incident. They claimed the couple had frequent disputes and alleged that he may have deliberately left the cooking gas on before leaving the kitchen.
Based on their complaint, police have registered a case and are investigating.
