Hyderabad: A house fire claimed the life of a woman and left her daughter seriously injured in Chevella village on Monday. The cause of the fire is yet to be known, police said.

According to police, Srinivas has been living with his family in the village for the past two decades. In the early hours of Monday, a fire broke out in their house and his wife, Lavanya (40), and their daughter suffered severe burn injuries in the incident.

Locals who noticed the blaze rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby government hospital. However, doctors declared Lavanya dead on arrival. The injured girl was later referred to Osmania Hospital for advanced treatment.

Police reached the spot and collected evidence.

Officials said Srinivas was not at home at the time of the incident, and his absence is being examined as part of the investigation.

A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by Lavanya’s father and is being investigated.
