Hyderabad: In a follow-up to the sensational Jeedimetla murder case, police have arrested a 19-year-old youth and his mother for allegedly killing her live-in partner and attempting to dispose of the body.
The suspect, Sai Ratnam and his mother Arunaa, were taken into custody and later remanded to judicial custody for the murder of Shiva Reddy (40) at their residence in Chintal.
According to investigators, Arunaa had been living with the victim after her husband’s death. Police said Shiva Reddy was addicted to alcohol and frequently harassed both Arunaa and her son, which allegedly led them to hatch a plan to eliminate him.
Officials revealed that Sai Ratnam had allegedly turned to online crime videos to understand how to execute the murder and avoid detection. He is said to have procured a knife from a nearby meat shop as part of the plan.
On Sunday night, after the victim went to sleep, Sai Ratnam allegedly attacked him with the knife, killing him on the spot.
In an attempt to cover up the crime, the duo disposed of blood-stained clothes in a nearby drain and placed the body inside a plastic drum, planning to move it later. However, their plan failed when Sai Ratnam approached a friend for help in shifting the drum. Shocked on seeing the body, the friend informed the police.
During the probe, police also recovered photos and video recordings related to the crime from the accused’s mobile phone.
A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
